crickets carry a lovely sound

i have said it before and i will say it again: %%green%%silence is largely a myth%%. i live in a fairly rural place. not much for noise around here apart from braying donkeys, gobbling turkeys, the hoof clop of our neighbour's cows, baaing lambs and sheep, singing tweeting birds, the rare gun crack, and church bells and popping cohetes (small fireworks). but generally, not much sound at all.

due to this relative silence, the night is an orchestra. croaking toads and frogs, hooting owls, clicking buzzing bats, and of course a chorus of chirping crickets. i don't love them in the garden, but i do love their sound. it is calming to me. it is a call to bed, to sleepy times, and may i call back with my log sawing snores.

on especially quiet nights, where all you can here is the breeze, i find it hard to sleep. i find myself missing the sound of the crickets. so i typically fill my ear holes with a boring podcast or something. but if there are crickets, they lull me straight to sleep.

crickets are a sound i really enjoy. this is likely due to being born in the prairies. crickets were the soundtrack to my childhood. dang, they carry a lovely sound.
