rain rain rain ⛈️

it feels like last night was the beginning of our rainy season, fingers crossed. we were woken at two in the morning by a bright flash followed swiftly by a crack and a rumble. the sky opened up and the rain started pouring. it was heavy and lasted a few hours.

our rain catchers are full, the air is fresh and clean, and the mountain is glowing this morning. with this rainfall we also washed out the remaining sediment for the communal presa (dam) so we will be able to close it and let the next couple of rainfalls fill it back up.

the typically dry river below us, is now flowing peacefully. i can hear happy frogs and birds. i am happy too. i left one of the only remaining water-secure regions in mexico, %%yellow%%though saying that is even a bit of a stretch%%, to return to the insecurity of the valley. our water is sacred, but is simply given away to tourists and gringos in a way that trivialises its importance to local communities. %%green%%but we live in a community who prioritises water, and we work together to collect and secure it%%. happy days! let's hope the rainy season is here to stay and we don't return to drought. back to my morning coffee.
