scrap language part 2
language has become a collective hallucination in which consumption has become the dominant mode of production. this has rendered language more or less meaningless.
we live in a world where there is more and more information, and less and less meaning.
jean baudrillard
language has been subsumed by capitalism. nearly everything has become an advertisement. our languages, how we communicate, have become public relations speak. we are fellow victims of the vitiation of language into pr speak. to resist this we must make language art again.
maybe this is why i love poetry? it nearly wholly subverts capitalism and pr speak.
poetry is the perfect example of scrap language. how beautiful. read poetry!
or read this article on the connective nightmare of the call center. a lot of words, but a fun way to look at and challenge how capitalism has shaped our language.
i have no way to end my thoughts on scrap language for you (or me). i just want to us to all be better communicators, listeners, and better readers all while extinguishing any semblance of the fiery hell that is pr speak.
