whoami: a mostly unfancy bio

my name is kevin, %%green%%but i prefer km%%. i was born in canada, but have called mexico home for well over a decade. i was a geography and literature teacher for many many years, but have since moved into the solar energy industry, carrying forward my teaching and geography knowledge into a new, exciting space.

%%purple%%i was born in the 80's%% on the cusp on millenialhood, but consider myself more a part of the nintendo generation or a soft gen x'er. i come from a working-class family, with british, roma, and indigenous roots. though, i can't/don't consider myself any of those things, but feel their influences in my life every day.

i enjoy %%green%%gardening%%, writing poetry, collage-making, printmaking, letterpress printing, bookbinding, zine-making, photography, playing music (i have played/sang in punk, trubači, and folk bands/groups: jarana, banjo, ukulele, accordion, trombone, etc.), cooking, fermentation, brewing beer, watching baseball (lmb), reading, and watching really low-rated movies.

i have a partner, m., a dog, tennessee williams, and a cat, totoro. i have lived in two different canadian provences, and three different states in mexico, i currently reside in the south of mexico, surrounded by the sierra madre moutain range.

i feel strongly that %%red%%capitalism is a global evil%%, and stand firmly against social, economic, and political hierarchies. i am an ecologist and a technologist. not sure if that makes me a technoecologist or an ecotechnologist, but i believe that while technology is not neutral, it has great potential when placed in the hands of the people.

i have been blogging on and off since 1998, and before that was a bbs enthusiast. i feel deeply passionate about community, education, technology, and the environment.

i'm dyslexic and have adhd. i see this as a superpower and these have shaped the way i think in fun and intersting ways, although they can also be friction points in many aspects of life i don't really mind.

%%orange%%this has been a mostly unfancy bio%%. %%yellow%%nice to meet you%%.
